Octavio Is Dead!
Filmmaker, broadcaster, musician, activist, and outspoken bisexual, Sook-Yin Lee may be one of Canada’s most cherished artists. Lee affirmed her dedication to representing positive and fluid sexualities through her key role in Shortbus, the 2006 erotic dramedy by John Cameron Mitchell. We are thrilled to welcome Lee to our Festival to present her sophomore feature film. Starring Sarah Gadon, Rosanna Arquette and Raoul Max Trujillo, Octavio Is Dead! is a queer, gender-bending ghost story with a meaty side of family drama.
On the same day Tyler is fired from her dead-end job, she learns her estranged father, Octavio, has passed away. All her life, Tyler’s overbearing mother has lead her to believe her father wanted nothing to do with her, but after a strained meeting with Octavio’s lawyer, Tyler finds herself in possession of his decrepit and eccentric apartment—an apartment that both scares her and compels her to change her life.
