Out in Schools, in partnership with Scotiabank, announce the launch of their second annual end-of-year campaign, Making Hallways Bright, on December 1st – Giving Tuesday, widely known to be the opening day of the giving season. The campaign inspires donations through a partnership with Scotiabank for LGBTQ2+ youth in BC. For the month of December, Scotiabank will match any donation to Out in Schools dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000. The Out in Schools program brings fresh and relevant films into classrooms to facilitate dialogue about the reality of LGBTQ2+ youth experience. Youth learn the impacts of homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination. They walk out of a presentation with a commitment to step up to stop bullying. Donations can be made online at outinschools.com or in person at Scotiabank’s 1500 branch in North Vancouver until December 31st. Branch hours are M-Th: 9:30 – 4, Fr: 9:30 – 5, and parking is free. With your gift, our skilled facilitators can continue to give presentations across BC and engage with youth to help create learning environments free of homophobia, transphobia, and bullying. Every day there are more schools requesting our presentations, and we cannot meet the demand unless our resources grow. Help us reach more schools 2016. Please consider making a gift today. The Out in Schools program works. Feedback evaluations show that young people leave the presentations with an understanding of homophobia and transphobia’s very real impacts, sharpened critical thinking skills, and an empathetic connection that fosters a commitment to stop bullying. “When I saw your presentation I realized that slurs aren’t funny and that LGBTQ2+ people are just the same as me. Who they love shouldn’t make difference in how they’re treated,” said a student from Lillooet Secondary School. This past May, we travelled north to schools in Prince Rupert and the Haida Gwaii, and this coming spring we’ll be touring the Okanagan, Shuswap, and Revelstoke regions. Beyond allowing us to connect with youth in schools that we’ve never visited before, this tour will give us the opportunity to train a new locally-based facilitator to continue our work in central BC throughout the year. Your donation will help extend our reach even further! Donate today at http://outinschools.com/making-hallways-bright/
